When I’m not guiding you toward your Most Thriving Life, you’ll probably find me enjoying an engaging chat—whether with an old friend or someone who quickly becomes one. I love spending time outdoors in my backyard or savoring my favorite cup of coffee. Life’s too short not to live it to the fullest!
Speaking of coffee, after trying countless blends, I’ve finally found a few that are just right for me. I typically stick to two cups a day (well, most days!). And here’s a little fun fact: even in Houston’s sweltering summer heat, I’m a hot coffee person all the way. There’s something so comforting about a steaming cup with pure coconut milk—it’s my go-to indulgence!

My Journey from Anxious to Aware
Back in 2006, while living in our first home, I began noticing subtle connections between what I consumed and how I felt. As a busy Nurse Practitioner, wife, and mom of a toddler, I was constantly on the go, and Diet Coke felt like my lifeline. It gave me the energy I craved, but I couldn’t ignore the side effects: a persistent rash, scattered thoughts, and a growing sense of anxiety. Over time, I realized the artificial sweeteners and caffeine weren’t just irritating my skin but they were impacting my mood and focus, too.
Curious and determined, I began experimenting by cutting back, pairing caffeine with food, and noticing how my body responded. These small shifts made a big difference. My anxiety lessened, and my focus began to return. I was fascinated. Something deeper was happening.
In 2008, we moved into our second home. The previous owners assured us it had been properly repaired after a minor flood, and we took their word for it.
About a year in, my body started speaking up again, but this time, louder. I developed hives, struggled with sleep, and felt a heightened sense of anxiety. I experienced recurring nightmares, often of the ceiling crashing in that left me waking in fear, exhausted and confused.
I did all the things: I changed to a less stressful job, practiced breathwork and journaling, worked with a counselor, and created space for healing. I even saw an allergist, hoping to get some answers but all the skin tests came back negative. Still, I couldn’t shake the feeling that something in the environment was being missed.
Eventually, I began working with a Functional Wellness Practitioner who helped me lay a stronger foundation through better nutrition, targeted nutrients like Vitamin D, B vitamins, and omega-3s, and stabilizing my blood sugar with protein-rich, whole-food meals.
We also discovered sensitivities to gluten and dairy. Removing those made a noticeable difference in my anxiety, but I still felt off.
Then, in August 2017, Hurricane Harvey hit. Our home flooded with 43 inches of water. We lost nearly everything. But what I didn’t expect to lose… were the nightmares.
Two weeks after the flood, I realized the nightmares were gone. I searched online and found something that stopped me in my tracks: mold exposure can cause nightmares.
Suddenly, everything clicked into place.
My son had chronic sinus infections. My husband had a lingering cough. I had red, inflamed skin, thinning hair, and a constant sense of unease. I went back to my Functional Wellness Practitioner, and we did urine testing for mold.
My results showed high levels of ochratoxin and Aspergillus which were clear signs of mold toxicity. Interestingly, I did not test positive for Stachybotrys (black mold), which most people associate with illness. But here’s the truth: you don’t need black mold to get very sick.
Other types of mold, like the ones I had, can still wreak havoc on your nervous system, immune function, hormones, and mood.
Mold illness is often overlooked or misunderstood especially when symptoms seem vague or unconnected.
But for many, it’s the missing piece of the puzzle.
We started a mold detox protocol, and over time, my health began to return. I often hear, “You live in the Houston area where there’s mold everywhere. Why can’t you handle it?” The truth is, about 1 in 4 people have a genetic predisposition that makes them unable to detox mold efficiently. For us, mold isn’t just an inconvenience but a whole-body crisis.
The good news? You can heal.
I’ve been there, and I now walk alongside others who are navigating the same thing. I’ve worked with clients who tested positive for mold, both in their homes and in their bodies, and with the right support and a step-by-step plan, they’ve begun to feel better, too.
I have a sense for mold-related patterns now. I know what it looks like, what it feels like, and what it takes to move forward.
If you're struggling with mysterious symptoms, stubborn anxiety, or a deep sense that something just isn’t right, know that you’re not crazy, and you’re not alone.
There is another way. And I’m here to help you find it.
What Mold Illness Can Feel Like
Mold illness doesn’t always show up the way you'd expect. It’s not always a cough or something obvious in your lungs.
For many people, especially those who don’t detox mold efficiently, it shows up as a collection of symptoms that can feel confusing, exhausting, and deeply frustrating.

Here are just a few of the signs of mold illness I see most often:
- Anxiety that seems to come out of nowhere
- Brain fog or trouble concentrating
- Chronic fatigue that sleep doesn't fix
- Sinus issues, postnasal drip, or persistent cough
- Skin issues like rashes, hives, or redness
- Sensitivity to smells, lights, or chemicals
- Mood swings or depression
- Sleep disturbances or recurring nightmares
- Feeling inflamed, puffy, or just “off”
If you’ve been told your labs are normal but you know something isn’t right, you’re not imagining it. Mold-related illness is real, and it can affect every part of your well-being, whether physically, emotionally, and even spiritually.
The good news? Once you know what you're dealing with, there are real steps you can take to start feeling like yourself again.
If This Sounds Like You...
Maybe you've been doing all the right things like eating better, managing stress, trying supplements, seeking answers, but something still feels off. You’ve bounced between providers, been told “everything looks normal,” or maybe even started wondering if it’s all in your head.
I want you to know this: you’re not broken, and you're not alone.
I’ve walked this road myself, from unexplained hives and anxiety to years of sleepless nights and a body that just wouldn’t bounce back. What changed everything was learning what my body was really trying to say... and giving it the right support, in the right order, at the right time.
If this sounds like your story, I want to invite you to take the next step. Whether you're curious about mold, navigating chronic stress, or simply feel stuck in your healing, know that I’m here to help you reconnect with clarity, calm, and real progress.
Your next chapter can start right here.
